Pench is open October to June. The winter months are beautiful and comfortable; the hot months of April to June concentrate wildlife at water and offer the best tiger sightings. The park closes for the monsoon from July.
The best months fill early, so it's worth planning permits and lodge well ahead.
Always private — your own jeep, driver and naturalist, with zones arranged in advance so you spend your window in the field rather than in a queue.
Pench is one of the few reserves in India with a famous melanistic leopard — the black panther. Sightings are rare and never guaranteed, but a good naturalist and a little patience give you the best chance.
