Beyond Rishikesh's spiritual tourism lies a foothill reserve of big elephant herds, leopards and great hornbills — planned around the ranges and the season.

Rajaji is open mid-November to mid-June; the quieter ranges reward those after leopards and hornbills.

Things to know as you plan

Frequently asked questions.

  • Rajaji is open from mid-November to mid-June. The winter is comfortable and green; the hot months concentrate elephants and other wildlife around water. Different ranges open at different times, which we plan around.

The quieter ranges reward those after leopards and hornbills.

  • Always private — your own jeep, driver and naturalist. Rajaji is far quieter than Corbett next door, so the forest often feels like your own.

  • Leopards — especially in the Mohand range — big elephant herds, tigers (elusive here), and excellent birdlife including the great Indian hornbill. Sightings depend on the range, season and day.
