Between Kohora, Bagori, Agaratoli and Burapahar, each range has varying habitats and biodiversity. For instance, in one zone you may see the rare Hoolock gibbon, while in another near the Brahmaputra river, you may spot the Gangetic river dolphin and the Assam roofed turtle.

The park is open from October to April, and exact timings are subject to the monsoon season. If you're booking a Kaziranga safari for the peak season — November through April — book at least 60 days ahead.

My friends and I went to Kaziranga and had some amazing safaris — 5 tigers, plenty of rhinos and elephants over 2 days. Kunal made sure the whole experience was smooth, and when we had a small issue he quickly sorted it with the hotel. Would recommend!

Our safari trip with Travel With was an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime experience! We took a 4 day trip to Kaziranga National Park in the Assam region that included 4 safari trips over 2 days. Kunal traveled with our 9 person group and coordinated the entire trip seamlessly from start to finish. As someone who has never gone on a safari, Kunal made us feel safe on an experience that seemed unfamiliar at first.

Kunal is an incredibly knowledgeable and friendly guide and trip organizer. With an appreciation for both nature and sustainability, Kunal ensures your safaris go perfectly. The hotels next to Jim Corbett and Kaziranga were amazing in their own right. We took a trip with him to Jim Corbett in March 2025 and a trip to Kaziranga in March 2026 — even on the days it rained, we got to see amazing animals.

Things to know as you plan

Frequently asked questions.

  • Kaziranga is best from November to April. The park opens in October, but from May the monsoon swells the Brahmaputra and floods most of the park, closing it through the rains. Early in the season the grass is still tall; by mid-winter visibility is excellent and the weather is beautiful.

The best months fill early, so it is worth planning your permits and lodge well ahead.

  • Always private. You have your own jeep, your own driver and your own naturalist. Kaziranga's safari windows are also longer than most Indian parks — roughly 7:30 to 11 in the morning and 1:30 to 5 in the afternoon — which gives you real time in the field.

  • Kaziranga is the Land of the Big Five — the one-horned rhino, tiger, Asian elephant, wild water buffalo and eastern swamp deer, all of which live here in numbers. It holds the world's largest population of the one-horned rhino, and beyond the Big Five you'll find hoolock gibbons, hornbills, otters and outstanding birdlife.
