February to the beginning of May is the spring season and is ideal for birdwatching, as that is when the forest is at its best after a cold winter. The winter months from October to December are also great for high-altitude migrants that make their way down to the foothills as it snows in the upper Himalayas.
Spring is when the Kumaon hills are most alive — the ideal window for birdwatchers.
Most of the birdwatching is done on foot along forest trails. You will always have your taxi close by, so if you are tired or the weather is not favourable you can always head back to the car.
We are of the opinion that birdwatching is most rewarding when explored on foot. There are hides in the region, but many attract birds by feeding them exotic foods, which in the long run could alter a bird's natural instinct to forage for itself. As such, we do not include bird hides in an itinerary. However, you are free to visit a bird hide by booking one yourself — our vehicle will take you there.
